I have recently upgraded some components on my computer. Only the following components are currently connected, and all parts are seated/connected properly:

Gigabyte GA-p35-DS3L mobo
P4 Prescott 3.0GHz cpu
Coarsair CM2X1024-6400C4 DDR2 800 1GBx2 memory
PNY 8800GT video card
Antec True Power 500W ps

When powered on, the machine halts in about 2 seconds. It then powers up again, and gives 1 long beep. It then powers of again, and powers up again. It then powers down again, and powers back up, giving two long beeps. The machine then stays powered up (fans and liquid cooling pump working), but never posts- I have not yet seen this mobo's BIOS screen.

I have tried everything I can think of- reset CMOS (jumped and removed battery) swapped for different memory and different video card, tried memory in different channel banks, unplugged every component except the essentials (above).

Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

A P35 board is compatible with a P4 prescott?

Are you sure of the CPU? And is the CPU 4-pin connector plugged in?

Edit: ^^ and yes it is

This is the compatibility listing according to newegg

Quad-core / Core 2 Extreme / Core 2 Duo / Pentium Extreme / Pentium D

Let me check gigabyte real quick.

The manual says it is
April 19, 2008 5:49:07 PM

Here is gigabytes compatibility list

Supports Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad-Core / Core™2 Duo / Intel® Pentium® Extreme/ Intel® Pentium® D processors

Your gonna need a new CPU now.

Thats interesting, because the P35-DS3L manual in my hand says it supports

Quote:
Intel Pentium 4 processor Extreme Edition/Intel Pentium 4 processor/
Intel Celeron processor in the LGA 775 package

either way, the OP should get a new CPU anyway because that 8800GT will be seriously wasted :p

Liquid cooling? You have to have a fan plugged into the CPU fan or have it disabled previously in the bios. The board wont run without a fan plugged in unless you disable it in bios.

RR, I have an EP35-DS3P. I do not plan on water cooling. But where's the BIOS option? Can't find it.

dude the motherboard CAN support your processor and have you plugged the 4-pin connector? and also what you can do(if you did connected the 4-pin connector) is take out the CMOS battery for 30 minutes(i know its a long time but just do it) then put it back in and if that doesnt work then what you can do is RMA it and they GB will fix it/send a new one

also remember that it will take about 2-3 weeks so be patient ok

i got the same problem so i know what im talking about

Friends,

I dismantled the entire system, and reseated the cpu, ram, and video card on the mobo (with the mobo just sitting outside the case). I removed and reseated the CMOS battery.

I seated a stock fan on the cpu (forgotten how loud they are), and am now able to post. I will see if disabling the cpu_fan will allow me to use the water cooling system.

I would never have thought to try this, were it not for the forum feedback.

Thanks!

I'm glad you got it figured out. Water cooling didn't cross my mind (I've never done it)

By setting halt from "All Errors" to "No Errors" the BIOS will post with the liquid cooling system. Next forum post will be from the system in question (hopefully)
