Greetings Master Overclockers ,
I have a Phenom 9950 that runs nice and stable at 3.2 GHz and 1.40v. But, is 1.4v too high for daily use? My temps are good (115F/105-CPU/Sys under load), so I know I won't burn it up; but can that voltage setting damage the CPU in other ways? Any experienced input would be greatly appreciated.

lower voltage is always better, but if the temps are good then it shouldn't be a big deal. I would start slowly lowering the voltages and then running prime 95 again until you get to the lowest possible stable voltages that you can acheive

Thanks kyeana. 1.4v is the lowest stable voltage for 3.2. That's why I was worried about it being too high. My comp will also run stable at 3.0 GHz and 1.32v, but the 3D performance difference I get for the 200 mHz increase is surprising. 3.2 is a real sweet spot, if I can run it safely. Thanks again.

Anyone else, please?

The 1.4v should be fine as long as your temps and stability are ok. On air I personally do not like to go above 1.4v, but in theory you could be fine with 1.45v for regular use. I would say keep it there if your temps read well, its stable and the performance is where you want it to be.

Just for kicks, I am curious is to what the rest of your system has in it. Considering building another system based around an AMD, but most likely will be waiting for shanghi.

I have my cpu @ 1.375 Vcore for 3.6ghz. It works fine for me, 9 hours or Prime and it passed. 1.4 should be fine. You'll probably upgrade your system before it dies from old age.

3Ball,
Thanks for the reply. My rig is as follows: 9950BE, Gigabyte 790GX, WD raptorX150, 4X1 Patriot Extreme PC6400, Asus GTX260, Asus Xonar DX. I'm running at 3 GHz now, as the latest BIOS has rendered 3.2 at 1.4v unstable. Disappointing, but I don't think I can really complain. Maybe I'll try higher voltages later on, when more speed is really necessary. Thanks again for your time, man.

Yea, that system is plenty fast with it @ 3ghz, so you should be good, but I know how you feel when wanting that extra lil bit. GL with the system bro.

I'm running mine @ 1.4250v to get 3.2 stable so you're in better shape than I am, and of course higher voltages can damage any hardware over time, and shorten the life of it, so thats why its important to keep it as cool as possible, howeve as long as your temps are where they are you should be just fine.
