I heard that it'll have another on 7th April, but I haven't hear a confirmation yet.
So I'm wondering if AMD gonna have another price-cut in Canada.
Thank you.

I would assume it would be across the board in North America especially considering that AMD has holdings in Canada.

I made a few posts on other threads linking to a German site that indicated that a AMD price cut was coming on April 7th. I am not sure if it was my post you saw or not. I originally found the artical on Nordichardware.com about a month ago which referenced the German website that broke the story.

Here is the English translation:

Quote :

AMD with new price round in April AMD informed its Resellers about the fact that starting from April 7th they will discount for numerous Desktop processors. In the price to be lowered are the AMD Phenom 9500 and 9600, as well as the Phenom 9600 Black edition. Same is planned for the model row of the AMD Athlon 64 X2. Affected by the price reduction here the models are 4400+, 4600+, 4800+, 5000+, 5000+ Black edition, 5200+, 5400+, 5600+, 6000+ and 6400+. Lower prices are also for some “Energy Efficient” processors with a TDP of 45 Watts. The Athlon 64 LE-1600, LE-1620 and LE-1640, as well as with the Sempron the models LE-1200, becomes more favorable LE-1250 and LE-1300.

This is only a logical move for AMD and one out of neccessity since Intel has annouced an across the board price cut on April 20th.

I think the last price cut was 30% back in 2007.

I noticed the prices on Newegg have been slowly crawling upwards:

Example:
At the beginning on the month an AMD 64x2 5000 black edition chip was $89.
Now it is $99.

I think the prices are climbing up slowly to make the fall appear greater than what it actually may be.

What if you could get an AMD 64x2 5000 black edition for like $75 after April 7th?
That would be an incredible bargain.

Especially if you could clock it up to 3.1 gigahertz which would be close to AMD 64x2 6000 speed.

I currently have an AMD 64x2 4200. It is a good chip but I would spend the few extra to get a 64x2 5000 black edition. You can overclock to 64x2 6000 speed at stock voltage with no extra heat.

If you wait until April 7th you will be able to buy a Blackedition 5000 for what you will pay for a 4200 today.

2 weeks...come on. You can wait that long.

Yes, of course I'm waiting till that day, but since I'm not a OCer, I may get a 5000+ if the price isn't too high :D

2 questions:

1. What kind of mobo do you have?

2. Do you just go in to the bios, select the multiplier, then bump it up to like 15.5x?

April 7th is right around the time I hope to be ordering parts for a new build. I can't claim to need it, but I'd love to pick up a quad real cheep.

There is ALWAYS a drone. Exactly where, or how many drones you will encounter may vary, but that there will be at least one will not.

legitreviews http://www.legitreviews.com/article/682/1/ says the 9850 will debue at $235. That seems like a fair price for a quad.
I dont expect the dual cores will go down much. There just isn't room for a lot of change there.
