:hello:  can someone please help me out?
i just assembled my first home build computer consisting of the following:

case: cosmos 1000

psu: CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply

cpu: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600

mobo: GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS4 Rev. 2.0 LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Ultra Durable II

cd: PLEXTOR 52X CD Burner Black IDE Model PX-240A/IBP-BL

hard drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500630AS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

graphics - bfg geforce 9600 gt oc

ram: corsair Ram 2GB Kit DDR2 800 4-4-4-12

cpu cooler: the one that came with the cpu
will upgrade as soon as i get this working

.... I followed the mother board instructions and plugged in everything the way it's supposed to be plugged in I hope. The system powers on and on the mother board six phase lights light up. All the fans work except the cpu cooler fan. Maybe the cpu needs to get hot before it starts working, I dont know. The graphic card also starts working and on the screen it goes from "screen in sleep mode" to just black screen but it doesnt go into bios setup.
Another thing that doesn't power up is the cd drive. I can hear the hard drive working.
I've tried taking out the battery for 30 seconds and just putting one memory stick in, and changing it with the other one. Can someone please try to help me out or suggest something?
thank you everyone with any suggestions or answers.

CPU cooler not working?
You have 8-pin CPU power connector cord ok?
You have power cord in Additional power connector? ( next to 24-pin)
You have memory on yellow slots? Try with 1Gb

yeah the cpu cooler fan does not spin
it has a 4 pin connector and it is connected to "cpu fan" on the mother board but it does not spin, it only spins when i power off the computer for like 3 seconds. i dont have the additional power connector plugged in (next to 24 - pin) because i dont have a plug that would fit the connection and I have tried with only one memory stick in the yellow slot and still nothing.
I really appreciate the help.. thank you so much!!

avduka, I agree with games, do not panic. I think the only problem is with power connector like games said. Don't worry, it will be solved soon :)

problem solved..it was a power connection that I didn' see because it had a idiot proof cover on it. Its the first time I ever touched the insides of a computer so I dont know these things. The computer starts up and everything works fine but the cd drive. The cd drive is brand new and it should be working. Its hooked up the right way for sure, but it doesnt want to open. Do you guys think that the cd player is dead?? I ve tried moving the jumper to different places but it still doesnt open.
Anyy ideas????
thank you..

Your using an IDE drive.  You have the IDE cable plugged into the drive and the power cable plugged into the drive also?  Does the light come on?  Jumper should be on master if its the only IDE device you have on the IDE cable.

yes I am using the IDE drive. I have the IDE cable plugged into the drive and the power cable plugged into the drive. The light does NOT come on and the jumper is set to master and it is the only ide device i have on the cable. The power supply that i have going to the drive, I've tested on a fan and it does supply power. The drive does not open or close and the light does not go on..   Could it be something that needs to be changed in the bios or is it just a dead drive?? I bought it brand new from Newegg and it was factory wrapped.
Thank you for your help!!!

:) congrats for your new system :) Anyway for the optical drive, seems to me that it's defected. Try with different power cable (guess you'd done it already :)).

Although sometime we need to change the BIOS setting for optical drive (depend on mobo), but as long as it's powered, you can always open and close the bay/tray. So it has nothing to do with BIOS in this case.

Might want to try a new data cable, Verify it is plugged in correctly and not revearsed.

A bit off topic, but does it really matter which of the ram slots your ram is in? (ie. yellow or red)
