Ok, so I did what little ATI told me to. I installed the Realtek drivers, and went to Sounds in Vista, set the HDMI out as default audio, but it only has mono sound for Windows, no sound for all other games, Itunes etc. EXCEPT, all Source games (HL2) are perfectly fine when set to 5.1 sound. Any ideas on how to get this to work right?

Thank you dragonsprayer linking to that thread helped me sort my problem. So I thought it was only fair after googling for hours I would sign up and say thanks to you and the poster of the link you suggested
At least you're getting some output. I have the Sapphire HD 3870 X2 with HDMI output, and I don't get video or sound through the HDMI, but I can get video through DVI to HDMI adapters. I have tried force detect with CCC, as well as using Vista's display control. Nothing gives me video. I'm running an AMD Phenom 9850 with 4GB of RAM and the aforementioned HD 3870 X2. Any ideas would be appreciated.
