This will be my first system build, I think I have everything I will need for it, tell me what you think. The mobo, memory, and cpu COULD possibly change if something in the next few months comes out thats better, But for now this is it.

IF the OS is from Dell, don't pull things out of the old pc yet. Format drive and do a fresh install. Upon the setup finishing copying files to hard disk, it will restart the pc. Shut it down instead. Put this hdd in the new pc & the same OS cd.
Ok, will do, thanks for that. Why wouldn't the OS from the dell work in another pc? Is it something the disk see's in the bios or something, that recognizes that it's a dell?

Wont work since you will need to activate the XP coppy.

Yes, exactly...it will look for the BIOS.
It may not even be a Windows installation disk. Many of the OS disks that come with prebuilds (like Dell) are not really true Windows install discs, they are "restore" disks. They simply mirror a new image of the OS and all the driver/settings back to your harddrive so your PC is again like the day you bought it.
Something you will need to look into a little deeper and determine for sure what you have.
Shadow703793, damn, that escaped me. There are workarounds for activation. I'm not encouraging it. Quite a number of legit users would rather work around activation than deal with the hassle.
bryan240g, the best time to buy an OS is when you buy a cpu/mobo combo. Or a brand new pc. Any other time, the price will be higher. Look at OEM XP prices at newegg.
