I want to up-grade my PC from the E-6300 wich is indeed a good overclocker to a Quad Q 6600 GO stepping.
My mobo is P965 Gigabyte and i wonder if the new stepping will work fine on my mobo, the old Q6600 is no problem. Is there any need to flash Bios ?

Thanks in advance

If i were u i wouldnt have done it
i myself have E6600 and wanted to upgrade to a Q6600 but i didnt, i OC'd my E6600 instead and i am very happy with it :
Core2Duo E6600@3.2
ASUS P5KE- WIFI
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 500GB 16MB
OCZ VINDICATOR CPU COOLER
OCZ 4GB REAPER DDR2 800 4-4-4-15
OCZ 8800GTX @612/1080(=8800ULTRA)
OCZ PROXSTREAM 1000WAT
THERMALTAKE ARMOR CASE
LG M228WA MONITOR
XP 32 + SP3

What are the other sepcs of yours ? maybe u can upgrade something which is worth the upgrade.
So my advice is that keep the E6300 and OC it

My spec:

GA-965P-DS3 rev3
C2D E6300 @ 2.8 Ghz
2x 1GB PC6400 G.Skill CL 4
Hitachi 250 GB HDD
Antec Trio 430 W PSU
8800GTS 320
17" LCD panel

I play games quite a lot, but i also make some vacation videos and mod games (X3 reunion) using 3DsMax.
I was thinking buying a P35 mobo but i have a OEM Vista wich is "attached "to my mobo.

A faster quad can be put inside but Q6600 is the best bang for the buck for that mobo, it overclocks well to. I don't want to replace all components beacuse my pc is 1 year old. I just need more juice for multitasking, alt-tabbing between applications ex. Firefox, 3dsMAx and Football Manager 2008  :D

That board will even run the new 45nm 1333fsb processors with the f13 bios.

E6300@ 2.8 will suffice for gaming. u can replace your 8800GTS 320 with 8800GT/GTS 512

to Mrs.Bytch: i think the rev 3.0 of this board supports 1333MHZ CPUs

Thats what I said.  Rev 1 (which I have) also supports 1333 cpu's.

I have an e6300 and what you have written is my planed upgrade route this year.  You could get to 3ghz with a lower fsb than the e6300 so you would be saving your mobo some wear and tear.  A bios flash might be a good idea, even more so if your bios version is say more than several months old.  Might need to reinstall your OS after the upgrade aswell.

I upgrade for e6320(2.8GHZ) to X3210(3.4GHZ), the difference is day and night, by the way I have same motherboard (3.3) no flash bios required(f12).

Are you sure???? i would like to hear opinion of ppl that have this chipset and run a 45 nm CPU.

Anyway, E8200 is a nice CPU, low TDP, stock fast and really good OC.
Q9300 is even better than q6600 performancewise, may OC better BUT it's way more expensive.

I have a Freezer Pro 7 cooler, a Q6600 can easily hit 3.3 Ghz. I like to OC but i'm not a harcore fanboy of beating records.

There's info on Gigabyte's web site that show's certain 45nm being supported. For rev 1.0, looks like dual core 45nm, but not quads.

Thanks

I can hava a Q6600 for 170 euro, E8400 184 euros and the new Q9300 costs 272 euro.

It looks to me that i would be a fool not taking the Quad, E8400 has lower TDP but i seem it struggles going past 4 Ghz on air cooling - i have a Freezer 7 Pro. I know it can hit 4.4 with better cooler but.............
a OC 3.3 Ghz Quad6600 would be a better choice IMO.
