new psu for new gpu or not ? :)

here is my problem

im planing to sell mine 8800 gts 320 mb and get 3870 x2

currently i have
cpu:c2d 6550
gpu:8800 gts 320 mb
mbo: gigabyte p35c ds3r
ram:2x1 gb cruical
hdd : 320 gb seagate
80 gb seagate
psu: enermax 400 W liberty

for new 3870x2 do i need a stronger psu or not ?
or it can go on that liberty

I would get a better one. You were pushing it with the 8800, and I am pretty sure the 3870x2 will draw a fair bit more power.

Definitely! 400W is surely not enough for 3870x2. Better get a 700W+

You need a 550 W power supply for that card. See here:

You're looking at a little extra power for the 3870x2 (103W->188W).


188W gfx card
65W cpu (are you overclocking? overvolting?)
That leaves 147W for fans, mobo, drives, etc.

Should be enough, given that Enermax is a good brand.

from standard 2.33 to 3.0 it is now
no volting just fsb

And if you o'c will you need an 8pin connection?
