Building an over 20,000 3dmark06 computer...

So what kind of components am I looking for here, if I wanted to beat 20,000. Not saying I'm gonna end up with it, but what would I be looking at?

q6600, or would I need a qx9650?

with overclocking the processor (either regular quad core or extreme edition) to a point where it is not damaging the lifespan of the components by much... and overclocking the cards as nicely as possible, could I beat 20,000 on 3dmark06 with this setup?

  1. If you want to break 20 000 I'm pretty sure you're going to need phase-change for overclocking the processor.
  2. You can easily beat 20k with that setup. the q6600 would be alot better deal since its $700 cheaper and would oc to almost as high as the qx9650. One 3870x2 should be able to get you to 20k so 2x 3870x2 will have no problem getting to 20k.

    Show me a link where x2's are getting 20k, either in XF or single (without a phase change). Near as I can find they average 14.5k in single and I haven't found any reputable benching with XF.

    Not meaning to flame or sound like a fan boy, but I would hate to mislead the OP.

    thats with a q6600 at 3.6ghz and 2x 3870. 3870x2 are said to be faster then 2x 3870 so you should be able to get to 20k fine.
