heres the specs of the components i will be putting in my new computer but I cant decide on a case.

I want one that :

1) Good for air cooling / possible to add water cooling later if required
2) As quiet as possible (any fans ect i might need)
3) fits all my parts with some room for expansion
4) for looks :
- not too flashy/plastic/cheap looking
- not plain either (somewhere between)
- some examples of what i kind of cases I like are NZXT Trinity or Lexa, Thermaltake Kandalf Water or air cooled
- weight doesnt matter, and long as it's well built (if there is a door perferably not plastic)
- side window with blue LED's
- size doesnt matter too much but would rather a mid-tower then a full sized one (small the better)
5) tool-less drives (tool-less cards too if well secured)
6) would be nice to have removable motherboard tray, especially if the case is a bit tight for space
7) priced at the very most 250-300 cdn

Well let me know what your thoughts are (even if they dont meet ALL of the above, but should meet the top 3)

ok here is my new computer specs

The Antec Nine Hundred is a pretty decent case and might be what you're looking for:

1. Cooling: it has two 120 mm front intake fans, a 120 mm rear fan and a 200 mm top fan. There is a mount in the side of the case for an optional 120 mm intake fan to blow on the GPU and also a mount for a third 120 mm intake fan. This case moves some serious air. There are also holes with rubber grommets in the rear of the case for water tubes.

2. Quiet: I'd rate this case as fairly quiet when the fans are on "low" (they're 3-speed adjustable, all of them.) You can tell it's on but all you hear is a muffled sound of air moving, not the noise of fan blades.

3. Space/expansion: Should be just fine. The case is a longer-than-most mid-tower ATX case so long GPUs fit in nicely. The general setup of the case is that there are 9 5.25" bays. There are two removable (thumbscrew-in) hard drive cages with a 120 mm fan at the front, and each cage holds 3 HDDs and takes up 3 5.25" bays. The other 3 bays are unoccupied. You can arrange the stuff however you want in the 9 bays of the case. I have a Radeon x1900, two opticals, a FDD/memory card reader, a 4-port PCIe SATA card, a TV tuner and four HDDs and it all fits in the case fine, so you should have no troubles. Just don't try to put an EATX server board in there and you'll be fine.

4. Looks:
- It isn't terribly flashy as it's a satin black with a mesh front.
- It isn't super plain either as it has lines other than just those of a perfectly rectangular box. I personally like the front.
- It is reasonably well-built (weighs about 10 kg) and does not have a front door- the front is mesh for fan air intake.
- It does have a side window and the fans are blue LED models, except for the 200 mm big guy on top. I personally covered up the fan LEDs with electrical tape as I am not a fan of blue LEDs. The LED effect is more tasteful than some as it's just the typical 3 LEDs in a fan arrangement and that's all.
- It's a mid-tower ATX case that's on the larger end of the mid-tower size spectrum, particularly in length. But from your gear, that's probably about your minimum size. You're not going to be stuffing two or three extended-length and hot GPUs into a shorter-length mid-tower case unless you enjoy case modding, particularly removing HDD cages. Bigger cases also tend to allow better airflow, which would be important with a couple hundred watts of GPU heat being produced under load.

5. Tool-less drives: mostly no. The side panels both have thumbscrews as do the HDD cages, but you have to use screws to affix burners and HDDs into the case. I think that is an advantage as I've had a few tool-less retention mechanisms not work very well and lead to rattling/loose HDDs and burners. You simply do not get any more solid than putting four screws directly into your HDD or burner, which can be especially important if you want to move your computer, such as to a LAN party of if you live in a dorm.

6. Motherboard tray: not removable. But the case isn't particularly tight, so I wouldn't worry.

7. Price: The case runs from USD 80 to 120, so it will be well under $250-300 Canadian, even throwing in the fact that Canada's VAT is higher than U.S. state sales taxes and generally world-lowest hardware prices in the U.S. (It was either Anandtech or Tom's that ran an article about international variations in HW prices and found the U.S. to be the lowest on average.)

If you want more info on the case, Tom's used it in the Mid-Range Gaming System. You can also peruse the 2000+ reviews on Newegg.com to see what others think, even if you may not be able to buy it from them (last time I checked Newegg didn't ship to Canada.)

------------------------------ Upcoming Overdue Build: Dual-socket workstation, ~32 GB DDR3, OS on a fast SSD, high-end GPU, all wrapped up in a huge tower case. Coming H2 2011.

Yes, I am actually still running the Pentium III 1.0B Coppermine in the picture.

Look for the Antec 900 on sale, you should be able to find it for $80 dollars shipped to you door.
It is a superior case, at a good price.

I just built my lasted system with this case and I love it. Nice ventilation and looks pretty sweet. Quality construction and plenty of room to fit all my junk. I won't be buying another case for a long time.

I have an XClio 380a i think and it is great; good size, 2x 250mm(with speed controls) and a rear 120mm, all tool-less (but i use screws on the expansion slots), the rear 120 lines up perfectly with my Zalman 9700, mostly Aluminum, front is plastic.
My friend got a Thermaltake Armor and it would also be a good choice; slightly bigger then mine, 2x 120mm front, 120mm and 90mm rear (90mm was a leaf blower and was removed with no noticeable temp changes), and there is a top fan that he couldnt use due to the size of his PSU. Also the thing is steel and is like a fallout shelter for your parts.

First of all, why the Ultra X3 power supply? Usually people only buy that if its on sale, and I don't think it is. It is not a bad PSU but you can get PSUs that are so much better like the Enermax Galaxy S, for a similar price. Also I recommend this case, it meets all of your requirements:

Good air cooling? Check
Quiet? Check
Fits all parts with room for expansion: Check
Looks clean and sexy, can light up blue with blue LED fans? Check
Tool-less? Check
Removable motherboard tray? Check
Is affordable? Check

I've got a Lian-Li V2000 sitting in my closet that used to be my workstation/file server case until a recent round of upgrades and a new NAS. I'm looking for half of what you are willing to spend, including S&H to Canada. If you are interested, send me a PM; I can also supply some picts. It's a nice case with great cooling, plenty of space, and room to grow.

Here are a couple links to see what the case is...

Lian-Li V2000 Review

Please keep in mind that this is the V2000 and not the V2000A or the V2000Aplus. The primary difference being that the V2000 does not have the side vent or side fan, but everything else is the same. There are also numerous pc modding sites that offer replacement parts for Lian-Li cases and for a few dollars more you could turn the V2000 into a V2000Aplus.

well its not the mainstream opinon obviously by how has sold but i think this case has great build potential ( i really liked the fact that the huge 2 x 250mm fans take up no interior room...don't look like gpu's are getting smaller these days) con's no window to peek at pretty parts & i don't own this beast yet

Yeah those are nice, the only thing I did not like about the one I used for a buddies build was the sharp edges, ouch.

that reminds me i need to charge my dremel where did you say those were?

Lian Li A70 would fit the bill also, good cooling stock, all aluminum (sexy) only thing is it might not be as flashy as you want and its a little on the expensive side

I do like the Antec 900 case, and looks like it's a very good case from your reviews, and many others i have looked at.

the XCLIO A380BK, and the SILVERSTONE KUBLAI i kind of like too though. The Lian Li cases do look a little bit plain for my tastes though, even thoguh i have read good reviews about them too

Anyone have any thoughts on the Thermaltake Kandalf, or Thermaltake Kandalf LCS?

Well i will probally make a decision within the next few days as it's one of the last parts of my new computer I havnt decided on yet
