Hi Gents,

I recently made a post about some queries regarding PSU requirements with a new AGP varient of the HD 3850. Thanks for putting my mind at ease and assuring I didn't make the wrong decision.

Now I'm wondering how to approach installing my new graphics card. I'm in a bit of a unique situation. This is what has happened...

I was previously running a Leadtek 6800 GT AGP card, which died 2 days ago. My PC now won't give me a picture in Windows (I can't see anything). I'm running the latest version of Windows XP (with all service packs and patches/upgrades available).

Is it acceptable for me to just pop the new card in and fire up windows, then uninstall the Nvidia drivers and install the ATI drivers, or should I boot into safe mode first, uninstall the nvidia drivers, then boot up into windows normally and install the ATI drivers?

I'm wondering what the cleanest way to uninstall my old graphics card, and get my new graphics card installed will be - given the situation.

Any advice would be great.

Many Thanks.

I always uninstal drivers, restart with new hardware then install drivers.

Same work different order, seems to work for me.

^ if he doesn't have on board graphics that would be impossible since he would need to SEE the desktop.

You would have to put the ATI card in, just so you can get an image again, but don't install the ATI drivers until you do what Deranged said. Just cancel the installation when it finds new hardware. You shouldn't need safe mode.
