Is backwards and 256 bit. I know the bandwidth is higher but I cant understand since I have a 8800 GTS 640mb and play at 1920 x 1200 all high settings. How does the 8800 gt beat my card with 512 mb. It seems backwards to me. Yet it still beats my card and is half the price. Also Im reading the new 9800 GX2 is basically 2 x 8800 GT cards combined together to make 1 Gb but will it actually use that 1 Gb or scale down to 512 depending on the res? Wonder how much of a difference I would see jumping from my 8800 gts 640 to the GX2 1 Gb at my res of 1920 x 1200 all high settings. 10 more fps, 20 ? Prob not worth $600 im sure. thanks for the input.

256 bit is fine til you can actually overload that bandwidth. The 640 is only the amount of Ram on the card, has nothing to do with the actual core speed, nor the shader clocks. Im not sure, but Ill bet the 512mb of ram on the 512 is faster as well. As to the 1 gig, it cant EVER use the 1 gig towards the game info, but each chip usues 512 in conjuction with each other. Hope this helps

I have to dissagree with you there jaydeejohn
I dont think 256 is fine anymore, the games are coming out now where you notice a definate differance in performance, and the 512 is actually needed rather than just recomended.
If you were buying a new card now would you seriously buy a 256 card over a 512 ?

If you are really hankering for a card to replace your GTS, I would wait until the fall. Hopefully ATI and Nvidia have their next lineup out by then. Or, at least wait until ATI releases their new stuff, which should be in June or around there.
