Have:
Gateway: 7300LE nvidia / 300watts power supply.

Wanted to upgrade to something better, Has pci express slot.

A bigger PSU around 500/600 watt range (to be on the safe side), I like Corsairs myself but each to their own. Avoid the 8400's, 8500's and 8600's if you want to do any up to date gaming.

I'd definately upgrade to a better PSU. Corsair vx 450w would be a good start, but as mousemonkey stated a good 500/600w PSU would be nice for upgrades later. Did you have a budget for this build? What is the rest of your specifications too. Maybe you need to upgrade other parts too.

Make sure the PSU is not proprietary in that Gateway.
One easy way is to measure it and compare the measurements to a standard PSU.

[:mousemonkey:2] Good point, be good if you could check the pin outs at the plug end as well (make sure the colours match up).
