When I am asked for a network key in one of my computers, I am not able to enter more than 6 characters even though it should be 8. I know what the key is and I was able to set up other computers, but I have no idea what the problem is here.

You may need to update the version of XP (?) running on that computer. The networking utilites within XP have changed several times including passphrase length.

Alternatively use the utility supplied with the wireless adapter to manage, rather than letting Windows manage the connection.
