I don't know if you'll be able to get accurate legal opinions here.  You may want to go to Tom's Legal Guide and head over to the tort section.

Lol, bummer. What took you so long to find out? Legally, they have to replace it, since the product have to be identical as advertised. But if they don't, what would you do? Sue them? Well, maybe they will take it back, doesn't hurt to try. :p

Good luck with that. For the past decade tiger direct has been under intense scrutiny from the Better Business Bureau but nothing seems to have ever been brought to a resolution. They routinely stiff customers, refuse to honor return/warranty policies and other various sorts of BS. Many years ago I made the mistake of ordering a laptop from them... it stopped working in a week. They said they'd repair it, but never sent us any rma info, this went back and forth for months. When we complained to the BBB Tiger Direct told them they already repaired it, a flat out lie... and of course the bureau has the horrendous policy of automatically buying any response from the company in question.

To make a long story short.... don't buy from Tiger Direct... that laptop cost over $1000.

My rule is first try the logical and simple path. Have you called Tiger Direct? If not, why not call them? There is no one here that can do a single thing for your cause.
I wouldn't go on a "you better fix this thing or else" idiotic approach. Just kindly explain the problem, and see what they say. A reputable dealer will glady fix the mistake. Tiger hasn't been around for such a long time by purposely screwing people over.

Been buying from Tiger Direct for years. Never had a problem what so ever.
Everytime I call, I get fast courteous service. I had to exchange an ATI X800XT once that was badly overheating. They actually sent me a new card, NEXT DAY AIR, with a UPS will call tag on my own word that I would send back the old one as soon as I had the new one working.

What I find is usually people who have the biggest problems, are usually 50% of the problem themselves.

complain and email thats the only thing i can come up with. Next time buy from newegg there customer support and return policy are great. They even bend rules. My 8800gts g92 overheats and stuff so i called newegg they said for the price of my graphic card they would let me rma if i purchased another card. i bought my card 3months ago for 340$ and thats how much there giving me. so its like a free upgrade because now with 340$ i can get a better card. The value of my card now is like 220$ here i am getting 340$ back. I luv the egg!

That's pretty impressive, considering every time I've dealt with Tiger Direct, they've wanted me to pay shipping on products they improperly packaged (by that, I mean they shipped me a heatsink in a box smaller than the actual retail package the heatsink was in, and they smashed it flat to make it fit).  Or they can't understand how I could have placed an order on something that they don't carry, even though I had confirmation emails and invoices, and a hefty charge on my credit card, and an order number on my TD account, and could give them a link to the product's page on their site (that order is actually still listed in my previous orders, to my knowledge).

I'll never deal with Tiger Direct again.

I completely agree with you. i've bought a bunch of stuff from tiger direct, like cpu's, motherboards, ram, vid cards, monitors...you get the idea...i actually got a 22" acer monitor from them on the 21st of march (a friday) and it got to my house before i left for school on the 24th (which is a monday), and not one dead pixel. every time i've dealt with them i've been really happy. never had any repackaged crap or anything

A stepping is not an issue of fraud or other legal issues.

To the manufacturer a stepping just represents a different batch or run of product, this would be the same as dye lots in fabric.  It would be "nice" if things matched or you got one lot over another, but it is not a legal requirement.

BTW, I just purchased big bucks from Global, one of the Systemax sister companies that includes TigerDirect.

One small $200 error that was fixed the same day we called.

(Somebody just counted the cases incorrectly and it was very obvious that 49 on one pallet and 25 on the other pallet did not equal 75).

I have been buying from Systemax "sisters" for years.  Errors happen, but they have always gotten fixed.

but if they say if the cpu is a GO then don't they legally have to give a GO version because i bought from tiger because they advertised a GO. i would have bought somewhere else if i had known. Do i have any case against them to get my GO??

First, I would check your receipt (or e-mail confirmation, or order page) to find the part number you ordered. Head back to TigerDirect and check that part number. If the part number on your receipt matches the part number for the G0 processor, then call TigerDirect and POLITELY explain the situation.

Trust me. You'll get a lot better customer support if you work WITH them to get an issue resolved rather than just complaining.

You are totally entitled to have G0 stepping proc.
And it's not a miracle
The S-Spec No. on the box should be   SLAR

Please do not do the same mistake again and buy from Tiger Direct

Yes, dude, you have to call and talk to someone. People rely too much on emails, and then when they don't get an immediate response, they start getting mad. By the time they get around to calling and actually talking with someone, politeness and reason is now out the window. Bad way to start out, yelling at the person who is in the best situation to actually help you. Be nice, be courteous, and usually things go your way.

Totally agree.  Just being polite can often get you what you want.
