Well, I was so close to buying an HX520/620, and then kept reading about this buzzing situation which seems to also be in the seasonics (maybe the S12-II's are better?). I decided that I will not buy it since it seems to be luck of the draw.

I need a PSU that is quiet. I just read SPCR's review of the Modu82 and it seems to perform very well and also be very quiet.

Would you recommend the Modu82 525 or 625er? Or the newer S12-II's? If not, what other one?

Here are the specs of my soon-to-be build:

E8400, GA-EP35-DS3R, 4GB DDR2 PC-6400, P182 + 3 or 4 800rpm Slip Streams

Thanks!

PC P&C Silencer 610w or 750w, they are Tier1 power supplies and are perfect for ANY machine.  Get one, they are reliable, quiet, well built, and not overly expensive.  They are the best PSUs in the 600-750w catagory.

Nice, if you can afford getting one of those Modu's go for it. Antecs typically have the quietest power supplies, but they aren't exactly on level with a Corsair or Enermax. Also look at Seasonic M12 PSU's. They are very quiet and are on level with Enermax and Corsair power supplies.
You've got 500W, 600W, and 700W variants - Link

But yeah, if you can fit the Modu into your budget, get it! Just make sure you shop a bit because newegg has that at $200 for the 625W model.

Also, thanks for reminding me of SPCR, because they have some very nice reviews. Note that the M12 in their review is a 430W power supply so its going to get noisy to eliminate all that heat when operating at its max. If you go with the 600W M12, you should see noise levels closer to that of the S12 650W.

I'm also assuming you are looking at modular power supplies. If not, there a many more options available, like the PC P&C stuff that Blood Raven mentioned. But for quiet stuff, I would limit it to all the stuff that has already been mentioned.

Great, thanks for the info!

That PC P&C is quiet too. I worded that last sentence weird so don't think I meant to exclude the PC P&C.

Just FYI, Seasonic also builds the Silencer 750 and I think (not sure) the 610.

these new Silencer models PC Power & Cooling has chosen to use one of the most respected companies in the quiet computing realm, Seasonic, to produce the Silencer 750.
