one of my friends gave me a dell with a 2.8 ghz p4 processor and the rest was intergraded and outdated..., so i was thinking about pulling the 2.8 ghz p4 out of that mobo and putting it into another motherboard my budget is tight as the high school job doesnt provide much extra money, id have to say id like to keep it around 150-200 tops

motherboard: Recertified: ECS PT890T-A V1.0 LGA 775 VIA PT890 ATX Intel Motherboard

ram: WINTEC AMPO 2GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300)

and maybe a powersupply, i will have to double check if i have one laying around, i already have cd rom drives, hard drive and i have an extra case laying around, also i was curious if i would have to take the heat sink off of the processor in order to take it out of the motherboard, any input would be great, thanks guys

Look at the label on the Dell psu. It may be ok for that gpu.

$200 tops for cpu/mobo/ram & gpu? If you don't overclock, amd is the best bang.

im pretty sure the dell PSU is 300 watts, i can double check when i get home though but i thought i needed closer to 500 watts to power a 512mb graphics with 2-4 gigs of ram

well i already have the 2.8ghz p4 processor, if of course i can re use it in this motherboard im trying to basically build this computer as cheaply as possible considering my lack of money

im usually a amd fan, but i got the p4 free so unless i can save enough money to buy a amd processor i think i might be stuck with the p4, for now atleast

The X1550 requires a 250W, but I think 300W would be the recommended. It'll be alright.

The parts you picked out are ok.

k once i get all the parts i guess ill start with the 300 watter powersupply and if it doesnt look like its going to worth ill order another one

well, apparently they sold that motherboard i was thinking of so i wanted to double check that this motherboard will still work, i guess the biggest thing i was wondering is if the pentium 4 chip will fit, because i see a lot of these mobos and they have pentium 4 then another tag like prescott and HT, and i dont know enough to know if that might cause any compatability issues with my processor or not
