I am trying to decide what main board and CPU I should get. I am wanting to overclock the CPU, an Intel, but I do not know what chipsets do well with this. I could either get the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 and the GIGABYTE GA-EX38-DS4, or I could get the Intel Core 2 Duo Q6600 and the GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R.
Is it worth it to get the better setup? Or will I be fine with the cheaper setup.
I have read some articles that say the Intel X38 chipset is better for overclocking than that of the Intel P35 chipset. But just how much better is it? And how much better is the Q9300 over the Q6600? Is it worth the extra $100+ to get the better MB and CPU?
Get the DS3R and the Q6600. There is minimal difference between for the OCes on the DS3R and the DS4 for the Q6600.
See:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] w=0&nojs=0 for OCing help. Its DS3L specific but the M.I.T settings are almost identical for the DS3R.
