I want to upgrade my radeon 9700pro for AGP slot, but I am on a tight budget. I was thinking about getting a Geforce 6800Ultra at ebay, but I don't know how well it will do in modern games like Crysis, and COD 4. My current graphics card can run these on very low settings and I wan't at least medium on 1280 by 1024. Should I go for 6800 ultra or spend some money to get a 2600xt?
Realistically for crysis it has to be the 2600XT.
But lets not jump the gun. What is the rest of the system like, CPU and PSU (power supply) are the main areas for concern.
You need to be sure your power supply can run the card you want to get. And its pointless getting a card that a weak processor will hold back.
Can you post the rest of the system specks please then we can help a bit more.
The main things are how many Amps you have on your 12volt rail on your power supply and what your processor are.
Mactronix
Neither my PSU nor my CPU is high powered, but I think it's okay for an AGP system. My CPU is AMD 64x2 4200+ and my PSU is 500watt no name PSU with 12 volt rail @ 13A. My others specs are 2 Gig of ddr2 RAM (G.Skill) and a cheap case with a regular optical drive. My mobo is one at newegg with AM2 cpu interface and AGP slot. I originally got it because I had no more money for a graphics card and my 9700pro was just sitting there, but now I wan't to play some new games so help please
3850 needs one 12v rail at 30a, sounds like you have 2 maybe three rails. if its 2 then you should have at least 17 but 18a is recomended I have no idea about 3 rails
