So i just installed an EVGA 780i mobo in my computer. Is it normal for it to take forever to load the bios? I'm not getting any beep codes or any errors on the LCD on the mobo. My 680i never ran this slow.
heres a test to make sure the mobo's working correctly, take the ram stick (or all if you have multiple) and only have it it the slot about 1/2 way. if you don't get a beep code, then there is something wrong with the bios. but otherwise, make sure your psu is ok
If you have a second RIAD or SATA drive controller that isn't being used make sure in the BIOS its set to disabled. Also if you have empty SATA ports on your primary drive controller, make sure they are set to NONE in the BIOS as well. If your not using a Floppy drive also set the floppy controller to disabled. Any of these that is set to Enabled without being used slows down the boot cycle by scanning for drives instead of skipping them during bootup.
raid was already disabled and i use a floppy so i left that enabled. Just for it to start up and detect my hard drivers takes about 5 minutes. The board seems fine but for some reason it is just running abnormally slow.
Does your board allow you to flash the bios with a flash stick? I had my ipod plugged in, and until i figured out what was going on, it would just sit at the bios screen, then i noticed that my ipod was getting accessed, uppluged it while booting, and it started running normally again, anywho just an idea.
I can't flash it with a flash stick, but it doesn't just sit at the BIOS screen. It's sits there and tries to locate my devices I have on the computer like my hard drives, IDE's, etc... But it might be trying to access something similar to that though, I just have no idea what.
So i've unplugged everything except my hard drive, GPU, and CPU. Same problem. Is it something that happens just when it's being configured for the first time? I'd really hate to have to RMA this board, but I'm out of ideas.
Ok, so before I was very impatient because it was taking so long to startup. I tried to actually boot off the harddrisk and I get the BSOD with this...
The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant.
And then it gives me a link to update the BIOS. Hopefully A simple BIOS update will fix the problem.
