I cant open programmes

Hello,
My computer starts up as normal but as soon as I try to open a programme the egg timer comes on for a few seconds then returns to arrow Then I cant shut down in the normal way

Some other folks have experienced this problem, which may be caused by a virus. They solved this by using System Restore.

If you can't even open the task menu to get to it, though, you could try launching in Safe Mode and see if that lets you get to the System Restore.
