He's only kidding. The best desktop is one you build yourself or which you specify the components for. If you knew how to do that you wouldn't be asking.
You might look for a decent small computer dealer and see what he can build for you.
PB, of course, have become a benchmark for lame and ugly desktop machines. If you must buy a big brand I would look at Dell and Lenovo and avoid HP, Compaq.
Obviously, read reviews.
Due to their unique price advantage, I think the best desktops are the three year old ones I find dumped on the street because some single component (like Windows) has failed.
