I am currently in the middle of my first build. So far I have a 300gb velociraptor and am planning on one more 1 tb hd. I know I am loading my OS onto the raptor but I am not sure what other programs should be ran from the raptor opposed to the mass storage drive. I plan on playing a couple games like crysis, cod, and unreal tourn. but will be mostly downloading movies and music. Also, how should I configure the hd's?(partitioning, raid array)
I would go ahead and put your OS and all your game installs on the Raptor, and all your music and movies on the TB drive and use it just for storage. Personally i hate parting up the drive and would leave it whole, but that's just me.

No need to raid unless you have like drives.
Thanks for the advice. I probably won't go for a raid unless I get more storage drives later on.
I agree with putting OS + Apps + games on VRaptor but you really should partition the VRaptor with 80GB for the C(OS/Apps) and a D partition for the rest. One great thing this will do is lock the OS data to the outer edge of the drive thus making startup and programs faster loading because the drive head won't have to move as far to seek. Also, this is good because a the OS can get corrupted and cause damage to the files on its partition. This happened to me but I had a D partition so all I lost was "My Documents" folder. I since learned that you can & should move the My Documents folder to another partition or drive.
For the 1TB drive, I highly recommend getting a 2nd 1TB drive and run them in Raid 1. Photos and video do not compress when backing up so you need another 1TB to backup everything. There is a far higher chance of a drive failing then some other way of data loss and this way you won't need to worry about it. If a drive fails, you're fine.

Thnx for all the info. This will really help me get started.
