I read the article earlier today. From what I get out of it is potential. Just like the early benchies about the 2900xt. I think the finalized product will be a lil more successfull, but I also see similar problems relating to the 7950GT2. I liked the running temps/power requirements but over all, this to my mind is only at the most, a $400 card

I know its early days for the card but it's not making use of its full potential... it should be raping the 8800GT in everything by a huge margin.
And the X2 is making it look expensive
there ya go. Better then what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting much.
And don't play the "atm its driverz!" card, its the same core as the 8800GTS 512mb.
that said, I think it is genious. NVidia can get a whole pile o new revenue with minimal investment. That means increased profits.

Why dont you make use of your Crossfire and get 2 x 3870's?
They should have the beating of a 9800gtx in everygame including Crysis and should cost the same ( £230 )
I'll be playing at 1360 x 768 resolution, i want ultra high settings for everything, and 2xAA at the very least.... getting 30FPS at all times.... not too much to ask at that resolution is it?
That scaling does look better than what I got with 2 HD2900Pros in Crossfire.... where I actually got worse performance!
But I'd prefer a single card that'll beat all those scores by quite a margin and im willing to pay a premium for it
Im in the same boat Dev1se, but we will be waiting a while ( 2009) for a single card that can play Crysis at Very High with AA..
Crytek have said the game is only supposed to be run on all high settings for now and that the very high setting is for future tech ( 2009 imo)
On just high settings Crysis runs like butter on my rig. Even with some things on very high others on Medium/High and 2x AA I get a solid 30fps...
You wont be playing very high on a 9800gtx, but like the 8800gts/gtx you can get it look just as good and play smoothly by lowering a few things like Physics, post processing, which have no effect on the graphics
I think I will hold onto my 8800 GTS 640 a while longer. I play all games maxed at 1920 x 1200 just fine (Crysis at 18 - 20 fps). This fall will truly see the next gen cards I imagine right before Christmas with new games coming that will use that power.

Soldier do you have to throw that pic into every post you make?
We could all do the same if we wanted but I havent the time to polish everything and turn my 5.1 kit into a 3.1 and a bit kit. Do you really keep all 5 speakers there? And those UV lights just distract attention from the monitor... what are you hoping for... a Tan whilst you Surf?

yeah I remember that b/c when the 7950gx2 came out every nvidian fan boy wa slike OMFG WTF BBQ!!! its 2 7900GTX OMFG WTF BBQ!!!
i was trying to say no its not you fools, but alas fanboys are too swept up in "their" company too care...pricks...
if you were gaming at high resolutions, it was a pretty good card, but at 1280*1024, i could have drawn the frames faster than the card could render them sometimes. seems kind of ass backwards but hey...

OK... I must be jealous.
well, judging by the camera, i'd guess he's either an 31337 (eleet if you didnt know) hardcore gamer that likes to show people what he's doing as he's killing you, or he's actually a really hot girl in disguise and does those really sexy yet surprisingly trashy striptease videos. could go both ways.

WoW i am soo disapointed in nVIDIA 9800GX2 isnt soo great and GTX will be even worse :S Guys we should stick with 8xxx and wait for 10+ this 9xxx isnt worth of upgrade damn...
3870X2 can keep up with GX2 with lower price even now but when 4870X2 came nvidia is screwed

Mate your a bit wrong there, minimal investment?! Nvidia had plenty of delays and a long development time for this thing, and even then early reaction and general buzz is a bit poor/negative. It wont sell big, I'll bet the farm on that (price/performance, g200 & rv770 a few months away) and its taken ages to turn up, doesn't sound like a money-spinner at all really.
That said, I dont think tweaktown's reviews are that great, a little bit poorly thought out all round (crysis at MEDIUM settings for a dual gts 512 gpu card?!?!?!?) and the card will look a fair bit more impressive when the other big sites get their reviews out. It is after all gts 512mb in sli, which should kick bottom really, even with some tepid clocks.

for the love of god. its not a dual gts 512 card. if you really want to know the real life performance of the card imagine this...8800gt's in sli...now from those numbers, subtract anywhere from 3-10%, and BAM, thats how your 9800gx2 will perform. the only thing the new gx2 has over the old one is that they flipped the bottom card so that they can use 1 huge heatsink with 2 contacts rather than 2 S*** tiny heatsinks that can barely handle the heat output of the card.
considering that a 3870x2 is two 3870's in one card and the 9800gx2 is two 8800gt's in sli, they should be very close in performance and they're going to barely edge each other out.
