I need some advice in deciding which part of my rig to be upgraded first, here's my current specs:
- C2D e6320 @3.15 GHz (450x7), stock voltage and hsf
- Asus 8800gt 512mb (stock speed)
- 2 x 1GB Kingmax PC6400
- Gigabyte P35-DS3
- Seagate 250GB (ST3250620AS)
The problem is I have 300$ to spend but not sure which upgrade would result in better performance gain (for gaming, sometime home video editing).
Option 1: Upgrade processor: Q6600 (270$) or Q9300 (305$). Is the difference between e6320 @ 3.15 and Q6600 @ 3.0 worth dropping the e6320 (costed me 183$ in 2007)?
Option 2: (keep the e6320) upgrade memory 2 x2Gb PC6400 OCZ Platinum (129$) and 1 Seagate 7200.11 500GB ST3500320AS (185$). Prices from local resellers.
Definitely keep your CPU, u have dont a pretty nice OC and a 3.1 Core2Duo is more than enough for today games and apps
so i dont recommend Option 1
About option 2, it really depends on u , are u really unhappy with your current performance ? do u think 2GB isnt enough? i say 2GB is enough for todays games/apps
You have an awesome rig mate its very solid i dont see anything there to upgrade excpet for the RAM and that really depends on u, if u dont get the performance from a 2GB RAM then go for 4GB
btw take this advise: Upgrade when u really need the performance not just because of new tech

NOOOOOoooooooooooooo!!!! Strict no-no!
Ah well i suggest you save the $300.......$400 you get a 3870x2..but thats not your budget....You could get some astounding quality Bose Speaker system for $250 if you want...
I agree with Maz. Overall, you have a very nice system. 3GHz+ C2D, along with an 8800GT makes for a nice gaming system. You have 2GBs of ram, so you are set there.
The question now becomes, seeing as you have the bare essentials, what to get now? I nice shiny new monitor might be a good idea. I really nice case and ultra high end PSU might be another. Perhaps you should get a nice desk and chair. (I'm not kidding, you'd be surprised at what I've seen people sitting on while playing video games.) A sound card or new set of speakers might be the ticket.
I/we can't make this decision. We don't know what your layout is. If you have the money to spend, take a look around you and see what you "need". What would make sitting at your computer playing video games more enjoyable?
