update for Linksys' WRTP54G

I bought this router from LinkSys about 6 months ago, because ot was the only one left in store. It drops my connection whenever i download torrents, cutting my link to the router only. It only does that with torrents.

I called LinkSys' tech support, was told to update the firmware on the router. Then i got a speech on "how this router was designed for voip use and that my voip provider usually should have the update."

Since i don't have a voip provider and i don't understand why the hell would you sell a router down at the retail level when it is designed for voip use only, i now rely on you.

So basically i was told there are updates, but that service is not available to the public. How convenient.

i sourged the internet for 6 hours for an update and no result.
help?
