I have built several systems in the past, but last week I built my first using a RAID 0 configuration with my HDD's. It was a pretty easy thing to do, but once everything was in place I noticed something different. My hard drive (s) was given a drive path of I. I have never seen anything but C in any of the machines I have built. Is there a setting in BIOS when you are using RAID to keep it as a C drive? Is there any way to change it now that it (they) has an operating system on it? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Added note. I have two Seagate 320GB SATA II drives in the RAID configuration. They are plugged into the 1st and 3rd SATA ports on my motherboard as they are locked and designated for RAID 0. MY optical drives take up the 4th and 5th ports, but they precede the HDD in the drive path order....G and H. My USB card reader actually takes up C-F and the floppy A. At least one is in the right place.

The more I think about this, the more I wonder if perhaps changing the boot priority prior to Windows installation to the floppy, DVD-ROM, and then HDD might have changed the drive paths. I have since changed it back to floppy, HDD, and then DVD-ROM.

Drive assignment is OS dependent. You didn't bother to list your OS.

However, whatever OS you are using, if you've already installed apps either get ready to re-install after changing assignment or just learn to live with it.

The card reader is obviously taking up the letters that you want. I assume that you are using a windows version because of the lettered drives. The best way to fix this is reinstall windows with the card reader unplugged. You could use this link if you are just going to reinstall but it messes with the registry so be careful.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions. I am using XP Pro and I probably will reinstall. I am just worried about the DVD-ROMs preceding the Hard Drive. I guess I could just leave the boot priority with floppy, HDD and then the optical drives and disconnect the card reader until after the OS is reinstalled. Thanks again.
