Right now i'm running an E8500 with a xigmatek HDT-S1283, I want to overclock it, but I think I have a failure chip? I know the heatsink is working because the actual CPU case temp is 28 under full load, but my cores are hitting 46-50 which seems incredibly high for stock. Do I have a crappy chip for overclocking or is that normal?

thats completely normal your fine to OC, just terminate testing if it reaches 70 c

Reseat the cooler because the temps are way to high for stock.

those aren't high under stock... hes saying thats under load... not idle... if those were idle t would be bad... but thats pretty good at load...

my 8400 gets to 51c 46c per core under full load prime95. AC7 freezer pro cooler and decent airflow in my case. its seated properly to as ive tested several times. so i think you are clear. if it gets above 60c then i would be worried.

What is ambient temp of the room?
What are your temps at idle?
What are you temps at full load?
If ambient is 22c
and idle is 32 to 38 c your ok to clock higher.

My Idle is around 40-44 I just realized I set my CPU cooler to silent mode which is why it's probably a bit high. All in all I'm pretty happy with my OC, i got it to 3.8 on silent mode and it idles at 46-50 and doesn't break 65 at full load. Ambient room temp is 20c?

*Update
actually it's idling at 38-44 (@3.8Ghz), which is making me say wtf right now? I think the computer fairy decided to lower my core temp for me and it's been running all day.

I have an E0 stepping e8500, I have it OC to 3.6 at 1.24 vlt. I idle around 30-35c, that's good right?

Read the Temperature Guide and don't resurrect the dead.
