the geforce 9800's came out today and it looks like they aren't that big of a leap from the 8th generation.

i'm looking around newegg, etc. and seeing some decent discounts and rebates on all of the 8th generation geforce cards. i have my eye on the 512mb 8800gts. is now the time to grab one, or should i hold out? and if so, how long should i wait?

Wait little more for 9800GTX! Card will be around 350$ with Ultra performance...

If that dosnt fit your budget buy 8800GTS 512MB :)

How much do you plan on paying? The gtx is not going to be cheap, ati has yet to get a single card solution out there that can rival the 8800 so expect the 9800 to be slightly cheaper then the 9800x2. Personally for the extremely low prices i would settle with a 8800 series i dont think the 9800 gtx is going to be the performance leap everyone is hoping for, my 8800gts(g9s) is only a few frames lower then the ultra of the same class, and the 9800x2 is only a few frames higher then that benchmark wise....

I'd just wait till March 25th when the GTX comes out. The "sneak peak" posts aren't to promising but you never know. You are right the 8800GT and GTS's have great rebates out there. I personally have the GTS and it is a freaking amazing card. I don't like the GT's unless they have a better cooling solution, but the GTS already has this. If the GTX is what they say it is, it's just a GTS but clocked higher. I clocked my GTS from 650 to 750 without breaking a sweat. You don't gain much from overclocking these anyways, they are small gains. If you can wait a week, just wait. But I'd set my eye on the GTS if you can. It's just an awesome card.

Thats so true, i remember when you could overclock your video card and SEE the diffrence, now it takes a benchmark to know it if did you any good, kinda sad really, is it even overclocking at that point? lol

I'd say Get a G92 GTS for $220 AR. Shoot, you even get a free game. Even if the 9800GTX = 8800U, it's still not worth $130 more than the G92 GTS. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814127323

Shoot, you could have had an 8800GT for $160AR from amazon.com.

well, i think the card i get needs to be a 512mb 8800 gts since i already have one and want to do sli. i've read that it's possible to do do sli with cards as long as they have the same gpu. would it be possible to sli an 8800 gt and an 8800 gts? they both have the g92 core.

:kaola: LOL you punk. Thx for pointing that out. It does seem I like that word tonight. I actually added the bit about the game just before submitting it and I guess typed exactly what was on my mind. Also am multitasking between video editing and these forums and had no idea I shot twice. Don't you have better things to do? :non:
