I have the Corsair Dominator kit Twin2X2048-6400C5DHX, which is 1.8v.
I noticed the other day i left the settings at the bios as auto and the memory was at 1.98v.
It could sound like a stupid question and the more i think about it, more stupid looks like... but..well...is that 1.8v the maximun voltage i should push it? or is the minimun voltage it needs and i should not pass lets say 2.0v?
It's normal that high spec (low latency) RAM needs higher voltage.
My GEIL Black Dragon needs 1.95V/1.98V (BIOS/XP) for 4-4-4-12 timings.
If you run them at 1.8V (and use SPD/Auto) they revert to JEDEC standard 5-5-5-18 timings.
Everything upto 2.1V should be no problem for Dominator RAM.
1.8 is the standard voltage for DDR2 ram. If it runs stable you don't need to push it farther. Some DDR2, mainly those with low latency or high clock (1066+) will often have a default voltage of 2.1 or even 2.2.
Motherboards always seem to give a little more voltage than necessary when left on auto. In your case you can always leave it on auto or set it manually at 1.8v.
I hope that answer your question (which wasn't stupid ).
The memory runs more than fine at 1.8v (memtest and everything), but i'm having this problem with my mother (Maximus Formula) where sometimes it doesnt complete the post after a reset or turn no. It stops at "checking memory" or something like that in the external led (screen is blank).
So after reading some posts someone says that it could be that it need more than 1.8v to start.
I just want to give it a try increasing the volt to see if that fix it or not. On the other hand the auto shows 1.98 and i was planning to go until there.
