What are those little copper things in between the expansion slots?

I recently finished building my computer and in the process of installing the video card, I found all of these little, thing, flimsy copper strips inserted in between each expansion slot. I damaged a few installing the video card, and they were getting in the way, so I removed them. What are they and should I have removed them? Thanks.

Some cases have very thin metal sleaves on the expansion bay holes which are visable when you remove the expansion socket metal plates by removing the screw and lifting them out.....

Imho if this is what he / she is talking about then they are nothing but intering useless tosh...

Remove them all together, their pointless and a pain...
