I am looking to build a gaming rig for about $1000 Canadian. (not including Monitor) Since I have never done this, I am looking for some help!
I know there are other threads about this, however I have already selected some parts, so I'd just like to fill in the blanks to round out the system. =P
Below you can see two parts I am planning on getting:
So What I need now, is all the rest. I'm not to sure about the motherboard, but also need Ram, HDD and a PSU. I don't need any dvd drives or anything like that. I'll be taking those from my old settup.
I am not looking for a large HDD, so nothing expensive here.
For ram, I suppose 2 x 2GB, but have no idea which kind to choose. (brand)
The Power Supply I am completly stumped on.
Like I said I would like to keep it under $1000. So with the Cpu, CPU, motherboard, and the case I chose, that leaves me about $350.
If anyone has better suggestions other than the CPU, GPU, and motherboard I chose, please say so =)
Total $985. You can save about 50 bucks by getting a 250GB HD and use that dough to get an 8800GT ($220) instead of the 9600GT.
I always suggest the Intel E6750 rather than Q6600 because the quad Q6600 is NOT, repeat NOT faster than the dual core E6750 in MOST apps and ALL games. Moreover, the E6750 costs $100 less than the quad.
However, If you're willing to wait a month or so...run and get the E8400.
If you want to wait for the new 45nm quads or Neleham, or you just want to try some overclocking, you could always get this http://www.ncix.com/products/index [...] ture=Intel and take it to 3.0GHz or so.

That a great build except for the fact that Newegg doesn't ship to Canada

Is this really true? I was looking at the cpu charts and thought the q6600 was much better.I looked at the TomsHardware one, and compared it on several applications and games, and the Q6600 always scored highier. It's not that I don't beleive you, but can anyone else confirm this? I would just like to get the best bang for my buck =)
Also I thought the E8400 would be expensive compared to the Q6600. Somewhere around $350+
Other then that, thanks for the help =)

180 for 19inch widescreen hanns g lcd. So 1032 before shipping. Add a dvd drive and hard drive. Of course you can save a little if you take a chance with the Ultra PSU bundled with the kit. Also, you would need a cpu cooler if memory serves.

Well which card in the end is really better? The 8800GT or the 9600 series? Someone told me in the long run, the 9600 would be better. Something about the 9600 being newer and would probably run better in newer games, and directx versions?
Look on reviews and do a google search, but I think the 8800gt is the faster card and that they both support direct x 10. The 8800gs is a whole other card. I think it's right at, maybe a little below the 9600 gt from a performance aspect, but again, I'm not 100%, check out google and see what you think. Just throwing out some choices as I know you said your on a budget.
Oh, for hard drive, here's a decent one, I've got a 320 gb seagate drive myself, and am very pleased, this ones a 250, but it's only 70 bucks Canadian.
Keep in mind with AMD though, that they are not the performance king at the moment, Intel is king now, but the AMD stuff is still good. I am running a dual core AMD Athlon 5200+, and it's quick for what I do. If you'd put it with a good video card, you'd still have a nice game machine.
hahahahahha i'm not lying to you mate.... take a closer look at the CPU charts ... you'll find that almost all softwares prefer the E6750. Its a common misconception that the quad is faster than the dual core. Quad fanboys always live in denial.
PS: Go for the 8800GT since its inside your budget. Again people are going for the 9600 because they think its higher than 8800...sad. 8800GT performance for its price will blow you away.

In your price range, I would go Q6600, just my opinion. The 6750 may be faster now, but in the long run, the quad will faster when my programs come out that can utilize it. For your money, just my opinion:
Q6600
2 x 2 (or 4 x 2) GB DDR2 800
8800 GTS or GT
500 GB HD
Vista 64 Ultimate
Get a tier 1 or 2 PSU from this list http://www.xtremesystems.org/forum [...] p?t=108088

That long run would be 2 to 3 yrs frm now on... and by that time there wud be a 32nm processor half the price of the current processor and four times the speed. Buy a quad now or not, i'll bet every1 is going to upgrade. So why waste precious $$.
Anyways PSU is very imp. The Corsair PSUs are excellent (450W, 550W) ... . the 550W one would be overkill. Don't got for number of watts, look for the number of AMPS on the +12vrail. Thats what matters.
