I am trying to repair a p3m based thinkpad laptop, I initially though that it was a bad battery, but the battery was replaced with a new one, that was allowed to charged the full twelve hours.  The laptop does not seem to get or keep the charge and even with the ac in the screen will go black.  I flipped the screen down and flipped it back up and the screen comes on, and even when it goes dark, i can kinda sorta seen windows still running.  Im at a loss, the battery is new, so its definately not that.  Any and all help will be appreicated, I hate working on laptops and need all the help i can get.

I had an old laptop doing that, the screen fading in and out and sometimes failing all together.  I thought it was shot, screen gone bad.  I took a can of compressed air and sprayed every opening possible on the unit.  Spray it out real good.  It is working perfect to this day and that was a of couple of years ago.

Sounds like your lightbulb. Or the circuit board that controls the lightbulb.
