Best Mouse?

Well my B-day is comin up and i'll have a bit of excess money, so i decided to get a new mouse, i already have an optical 5 button mouse, but i want something bigger and badder, i've looked into Boomslang 2000, seems like a nice piece of equipment, but i've heard it doesnt have drivers for XP or something like that? Well what is the best mouse i could get, a gaming mouse, i'm willing to pay upto 200 USD(if theres a mouse at such cost) but as u see i want a real good mouse, any suggestions?

I have the Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer and I think it is a great mouse. Microsoft will introduce new mouses this month maybe you want to wait for them.

The Logitech Mouseman Optical Dual-Sensor is also an excellent device ... fast and accurate, (with no discernable lag, which is a plus for online gaming) and many people prefer it over the Microsoft mouse.

In my experience, Logitech mice also have a lower RMA rating than devices from Microsoft.

I think it is personal perference. I would suggest you to try out both mouse in a local store.

The network I administrate have about 100 computers and have been using Intellimouse Explorer for almost a year and did not have any mouse need to be replaced.

I concurr with your statement; Logitech dual optical mouseman kicks azz! I love this mouse, and will have no other.

I have the MS explorer v3 it's a great mouse for most everything...very accurate and comfortable only problem for me is it may be slightly large for optimal use in fps games.I have avg size hands I think and when in a fast paced game I just find it slightly bulky for best performance..I still do well with it but not as well as with a smaller mouse. SInce when playing fps games I do not like to cup the mouse completly but kep my hand back slightly...I think it's just too fat back there...lol

Dual Optical is good, but sometimes more opticals dont always help. The Logitech MX 700 is a sleek, one of a kind, amidextrous (sp?), multi-function, instant responce (i am telling you, its this mouse that has made my Warcraft 3 record 91-12), no batteries, the list is extensive. Only 80 bucks to (well, thats a lot).

That is absolute bunk, IMHO ... and you would be the first person I've ever met who felt that doubling the dpi of a mouse and adding an extra sensor didn't help the accuracy of a device.

Care to justify that statement, if possible?

I'm not jumping on you ... I just want you to qualify your opinion, since you are recommending a device to someone else sight unseen.

Personally, I love trackballs. Never again will I buy a mouse.

The msft intellimouse trackballs are like, undead or something. I have two that are 4 years old. You have to clean them, but even with heavy use, it takes about 2 minutes a month. Those things just keep trucking, without problems as long as you keep them semi-clean. The tracking wheels (that contact the trackball) are very gripping, and the spring keeps enough force to maintain good contact over the years. At $29, msft did a good job of engineering. Or at least, the company that msft bought out did a good job of engineering. =)

Right now I'm trying out the Logitech cordless trackball. The transceiver pair isn't real powerful/sensitive, so you need a clear line of sight. It passes through wood, but not enough to tell someone "it passes through wood". It's supposed to be kept away from your monitor/printer, but I've not tested it out fully like that. I moved the receiver from the floor to my desktop, right in front of the transmitter, and I'm getting good reception. Previously, my forearm (it was having to pass through my forarm and 1/2" of wood) could block the signal, as I tested it. The ball is oriented a little different, so you have to "sweep" your wrist when you throw the ball, but I'm adapting to it and I'm beginning to like it very much. It's got a whole slew of tiny buttons which are programmable, and very nice, but are made for small hands/fingers. =)

I have a logitech 2 (actually, 4) button trackball sitting back on the table, that's for my laptop. I've not hooked it up yet, but I'm expecting good things from it as well.

Both logitechs are optical.

The only thing that I can possibly tell you is to stay away from Kensington's trackballs. They are top quality, but they did a piss poor job of designing the tracking wheels, and they get bent back so they don't make good contact anymore, or they become electrically erratic (probably from dust and dirt, which you have to physically "crack" the housing open to clean and end up tearing the hell out of it). I've had two go out on me, one within 4 months, the other after about a year; but it wasn't used nearly as much, so the total number of hours-used remains constant.

Kensington sucks three holes, sideways.

Just bought the Logitech MX700, It kicks ass. NO LAG whatsoever. It is as fast as a usb mouse. USB mice are at 125hz i think, so is this so no need to worry about lag. Comes with rechargable batters, 1700 mAH. I bought some duracell 1800 mAh's so i can switch em out if the other runs out. The charger can charge the batteries full in 2 hours and just 10mins of charging will give you a few hours. The only problem is with the drivers, the scroll wheel is laggy but you can disable the scroll wheel by setting scrolling to 'none' and download TweakUI from microsoft and force the mouse to use microsofts scrolling function so it works great now. This mouse rocks, and its a little heavier due to batteries but it doesnt really affect anything.

Too heavy= bad for fast games
Medium= comfortable, good
Light= feels cheap and acts weird sometimes
I have the dual optical, and love it. I do graphics, so I do need precision, and I play counterstrike a lot, so I need fast reaction. All's excellent. The scrolling is great too, no probs. I tend to distrust cordless mice cause they get lost very easily and I haven't seen one yet that doesn't lag.

Why a mouse?

Wouldn't a Joystick, configured to both operate as a mouse and Joystick be a better way to go? More functionality, much better ergonomics, less RSI?

I agree with the opinions about the logitech dual optical. Best mouse i ever had.

heh this one DOESNT lag. its like an invisible cord is hooked up to it. Anyway now all other mice feel light as a feather as i am now used to the weight of this mouse and my aim is great even with the weight. The weight is no problem at all.

I saw that mouse in a store yestrday. Dunno why, but it's weight and design pissed me off.....feels a little cheap for some reason

MS mice basically suck. Try Logitech. I have disassembled both and there is absolutely no comparison. Logi is solid...metal parts, etc. MS just puts a name on junk.

I agree totally; you are just paying for the name of Microsoft and nothing else; if you want quality, better handling, technical specs, longer warranty, better response, better quality and much better built product, it is HANDS DOWN Logitech every time for quality, best products, longest warranty! Easier to use, great web site, etc.

From my experience Microsoft's mouse is very reliable. The network I administrate have about 100 computers and have been using Intellimouse Explorer for a year and all the mouses still works perfectly. Most impartant parts inside a mouse is very delicate electronics how do you tell which is better?
