hello all, tax time and govt stimulus check coming for all of us...but i doubt buying a samsung or good monitor from another country will help us out..anyways, i have some major problems with my system takin craps on me and occasionally laggin while gaming online or stand alone. i notice it takes some hits, and wondered going up from my 1280x1024 to say, 1680x12xx whatever would help? i read on here that it does, wont tax cpu as much, but still does. would my x2 4000+ be able to last a little longer (until summer when i get to san diego, or until the "new" amd chips release) and my soon to be hd 4000 series card play games well at larger resolutions without killin my system a lot, only kill it a little? thanks for the help...

your x2 4000 will do quite fine for a while. faster the video card the less lag there will be to a point. its simple math. 1280 times 1024, vs 1680x1050. the more pixels there are the harder your system has to work and vice versa. You didnt mention what games or what your current card is. The cpu isnt as big of a factor as the video card.

On a good graphics card, with reasonably fast system, upping the resolution some usually doesn't slow the frame rate much. But if you are getting drops in performances, you should just stick with 1280x1024. If anything higher resolutions slow things down, not speed them up. Instead of holding on to AMD I would invest in a new Intel chip. They are faster and cheaper than AMD at the moment. And if AMD should become faster and cheaper, then buy those. But for now, it sounds like a core duo on a new motherboard could help a lot. As for a monitor, I wouldn't go above 22 inch 1680x1050 unless you are prepared to buy the very most expensive video cards. Setting them in the wrong resolutions can make them look fuzzy if on lcd.

i mean for crysis and cod4, i read that if you go with a bigger resolutions (i currently have an 8800gt, and 1280x1024 get 8300 3dmark06 pts with stock settings, some get 11k!) and it helps with these brisbane x2's. i have read a lot of sites and stuff that had 8800gt 512 cards getting 13k pts with a c2d...i know its my cpu holding back my system...but i seen that some people have gotten better performance in crysis and cod4 with a slightly bigger monitor, the gpu can take it, just i think at that rez the cpu becomes bottleneck. anyone else notice this or can confirm? oh, and i had my proc to 2.83ghz and 8800gt 512 at 675/2100 and still only got 9340 somehthin in 3dmark06. i know other people get over 10k stock...its my cpu!!!
