Well, when I was cleaning my PC the other day, I decided I'd fully clean out my heatsink, do some cleaning, and re-apply arctic silver. The CPU was cemented to the heatsink so it came right out of the socket and I never seemed to get it working again. Can anyone point me out what's the cheapest replacement I can get that won't hurt my performance. I have a 9800GTX arriving Thursday and I sort of don't want to be stuck with my 3700+ when it arrives.

any opteron dual core family CPU, they are mean OCers. Go for the lowest CPU speed and OC it hard.

I'm going to keep my eye out on the Opteron 165. I really can't spend over $100 because I really don't have much (or any) money at the moment.

I was just about to post that same CPU jrnyfan.

Its not bad and it probably will be able to OC a bit as well. But even so your GPU will be bottlenecked a bit or the GPU will be the bottleneck.

Good luck with a new CPU though.

more then likely a bent pin,  sometimes you can fix a bent pin if it is not that bad with a mechanical pencil,  insert the bent pin gently into the tip where the lead usally comes out and gentle bend back streight.

I worry there may be socket or motherboard damage, in which case a new processor won't help.

I've got an old single core 3200+ if you're interested.  I'd sell it for dirt cheap.
