Ok the new 9850BE just came out and from the benchmarks looks to be a much better cpu. I want to know if i should upgrade my 9600BE or just wait it out.

Depends on if you need that much more power. If you do decide to upgrade it, I will buy your old one from you.

Its really just a 200MHz boost. But also the NB is at 2GHz instead of 1,8GHz.

But to say the truth here, how is this an easy upgrade path everyone touts AMD has? You just got that thing a few months ago and are planning on upgrading to, not a new CPU, just a bit faster different stepping.

I understand this concept when you buy a cheapo low end CPU like a Pentium DC or a Sempron and are waiting for a certain high end CPU to come out or drop in price but buying 2 of the same class CPUs and basically spending double your money seems odd to me.

Well if you can afford it go for it.

Well, I don't blame him, I'm gonna be upgrading to a 9850BE here soon too.  I just want to get away from the whole TLB fix in the bios thing.  A lot of MSI's release bios's have TLB fix enabled, and don't have an option to turn it off in BIOS.

Otherwise, I'm gonna see how much I can undervolt the 9850 and still get it to run stable.  I know my 9600 was able to be undervolted pretty well, especially on the wattage hungry IMC.

On the other hand when I do, anyone want to buy a 9600BE that I know will do 2.6ghz by 2.4ghz NB/IMC?  In fact I've had it running at 2.7ghz stable too, on the same voltage on the cores.  My guess would be that with the right bios and cooling setup it should top out at 2.8 or 2.9ghz stable.  May even be able to get the NB/IMC higher than 2.4 at stock volts, never tried it yet though, granted I may see if it will run 2.6ghz once I get the 9850.

I agree and thats why I say if he can afford it go for it but it seems like a waste to me. Plus how many people are going to buy a B2 stepping Phenom when the TLB crap was so big and they could just get a B3 stepping Phenom?

Meh. I'm glad I got what I have when I did for a good price. Could have been worse and had to get a G0 after a B3 and waste the money.

I dont know, only thing I'm worried about with the 9850 is they seem to use a hella a lot more juice than the 9600be at the same speeds.  But then again, thats why I plan on experimenting to see how much the NB/IMC can be undervolted on that one.  I can definitely say that the TLB bug was way overblown.  I've never encountered it myself, in the almost 5 months I've had the system.

As far as the proc goes, I might be able to get a bit for it off Ebay, or something.

I.ve read enough of your posts to know that you getting a 9850 would be good value.
With all the weeks you spent playing around with that 9600BE, you were probably looking at an entertainment cost of pennies per hour. No doubt you will do the same with the 9850.
I look forward to lots of posts on it. Enjoy, I'm sure we will.

If I'd gone for a 9600BE and had not encountered the TLB errata, I'd hold off on getting a B3 9850. Then again, I like to keep a CPU for two years and what decided me on not getting the B3 is I could barely afford it in May, easily afford it in September. Yet, by September, we'll only be 4 months away from Deneb.

Do you guys really think a 9850 will outdo a 9600? Will it be worth the upgrade since Deneb's 9 months away? If your hobby's overclocking and messing with the voltages etc. of every CPU, then go for it. If you're thinking about bang for your buck, then you won't gain much over a 9600BE.

I admit, I might still go for a 9850BE, but I'd have to get a more expensive motherboard than the 780G, as those can't handle a 125 watt CPU. When you look at the 9850BE recommended motherboards at AMD, it's almost into the price range of Intel boards.

Can't wait for Deneb!
