Hi everyone! Thanks for all the help from these forums! You've been very helpful. I have a question - Im looking at getting the Samsung 30" monitor (2560 x 1600) as I spend most of my time doing photos and the real estate would be great. Ill use if for some games and then general web / email use. The 9800X2 reviews seem to indicate the real value in the card is at high resolutions which this would be. Is that the best option? Any other thoughts?

2x 8800GT/GTS in SLI mode are cheaper and are equal or even a bit faster than the 9800GX2 by benchmarks. That's if you have a SLI capable motherboard. Otherwise the GX2 seems to fit well with those screen sizes.

All I can say is just to wait until March 25th, and see than. By that time, we'll have quad SLI on the 9800 GX2, and the 9800 GTX will be out (the 9800 GTX is about on par with the 8800 Ultra, but should overclock better, pushing it higher, as well as scale better in SLI and Tri-SLI)

I'd just buy an 8800GT 512Mb at this point with a SLI Motherboard. If you really unhappy with it, just run out and get another 8800GT, and Voila! you got your 9800GX2 anyway. For less bucks.

I would not go the GX2 route... Very interim "answer" technology based on old crap at a premium price.

The ONLY way that a GX2 would have been appealing to me is if it was as powerful as 2 8800GTX's in SLI, with 2 x 768 MB vRam.

The GX2 just seems like poop to me. Afterall, would it get you 60FPS in Crysis in DX10 on Very High at your native res? No? Well, wait it out with an 8800GT. All the stuff on the market isn't "doing it" at this point, so it is a waste of money to buy it now.

8800GT OC 512 / 8800GTS 512 will be fine unless you are to play games such as crysis with all graphics features set to max. Then you can opt for X2 type cards or SLI. None of your stated applications will max out the video card except again for games.

Of course what matters is what you want...Its your choice.

I'd not recommend any multi GPU solution from ATi if the OP plans on playing Crysis.... as the performance compared to nVidia really does lack!

Waiting is the best option right now...
