Really, this is frustrating as hell. This evening I finaly got my new computer in parts and started to build it. As this was my first one it took several hours just to get it to run, but there wasn't any picture showing up on the screen and a few more hours later I finaly understood that I'd forgot to connect the CPU powersupply from the PSU - it had a strange 8 pin connector which can be used in a 4 pin socket, that's why I've missed it. However, the CPU fan socket is in the way since the 8 pin monster extends to the right over the fan socket, please see this picture http://pici.se/pictures/WbKfbPEcq.jpg for a better look at the problem.

What can I do which doesn't include buying a new PSU or a new motherboard (with more space between the sockets)? Can cut of the 4 pins that I don't use on the connector or would it break the whole thing?

Please help, I'm really dying of frustration right now. :( :(

The 4pin connector is ATX standard, the 8pin one is EPS standard. Most powersupplies (including mine) that has the 8pin one also have a separate 4pin connector. You might look up the specs for your psu. If it's included, look for it.

Thats the kind of stuff you just don't buy at newegg, as the shipping costs more than the part.
Coolerguys is where I get stuff like that.
If you have a local computer store and it takes less than a gallon of gas to get to it and back, call and see if they have one.

Just cut the connector through the middle so its two separate 4 pin blocks, no need to go out and buy something.
