More Information

I’m planning a new computer. It’s mainly going to be used for games (at 1680 x 1050)

I live in Canada so will be buying mainly from Canadian stores.

Here is what I got so far, the budget is around $1500

Antec P182 - $133 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] cid=CS.664

Corsair CMPSU-550VX 550W - $88 ($73 after $15 MIR) http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] cid=PS.808

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L - $87 http://www.directcanada.com/produc [...] e=GIGABYTE

XFX GeForce 8800GT XXX 512MB - $250 ($210 after $40 MIR) http://www.ncix.com/products/index [...] acture=XFX

Seagate Barracuda (ST3500320AS) 7200.11 SATA NCQ 3.0Gb/s 500GB 32MB Cache - $110 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] HD.443.877

Pioneer DVR-212D(Black) SATA DVD-Writer - $30 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] cid=CR.184

Samsung SyncMaster 206BW Black 20" Widescreen TFT-LCD, 1680 x 1050, 3000:1, 2ms - $240 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] cid=MT.258

G.SKILL F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-5-5-15 240PIN - $100 http://www.ncix.com/products/index [...] =G%2ESKILL

I’m not sure which processor to get. The Q6600 seems to be what many get. The E8400 also seems like a good choice but I can’t find it in stock at any store.

Q6600 - $265 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] cid=CPU.84

E8400 - $230 http://www.canadacomputers.com/ind [...] cid=CPU.84

Any suggestions?

Looks great to me.

If Xeon E3110 is available, get it. it's the same as E8400. Search for specs at intel.com & you'll see. The E3110 is cheaper.

Otherwise, go with Q6600. It has a x9 multiplier. The new Yorkies have lower multipliers.

If you can wait a bit, you can save money on tax by ordering from ncix.com & price-matching directcanada.com. You pay only 5% of tax + shipping.

Can't really say anything is a bad choice though I would consider the following for futureproofing a bit if your budget will allow......

-X48 boards began shipping this week...worth a peek.
-Lenovo 22" has 1920 x 1200 HiDef resolution for $200 more and it's S-PVA not TN
