I am buying an new computer this week and i want to know what would be the best motherboard i will be over clocking cpu,ram,video card. I have a 2,000 dollar budget.
e8500
9900's/4 when released(i will be using 8600Gt temporary that i was laying around)
8gb ddr2 800 ocz sli edition
seagate barracuda 500gb 7200RPM 32mb
DvD burner with lightscribe
vista ultimate 64 bit

Will not sli

x38/x48 are good overclockers

P35 are also pretty good overclockers and are cheaper.

You're paying for brand name and hype. And note that the ddr2 support is listed as "1200(O.C.)" and not "1200" natively.

 

X48 chipset, priced lower than Asus x38, either same or superior in every specs, just non-brand name. That is, if you consider Gigabyte a bad brand.

Btw, ASUSTek is based in Taiwan, with factories in mainland China. I've never heard of BMW that's Made in China and whatnot... :D

Dagger, I knew you'd like that. :)

$300 for a mobo doesn't seem like a lot to me but if you all are right and better specs, performance, and usability can be had for half the price there's not reason to pay double the price. ...except brand loyalty and that's not a good reason for most.

There aren't any x48 motherboard for half of $230. It's about as low as it gets. :p
