Hi there. First post here. Couldn't get a decent answer from guru3d forum so thought i'd try here.

I am selling my 8800gts 320mb oc $246

I have 3 choices of cards to upgrade to. I play at 1280x1024 and want to be able to have highest detail setting on and some aa and max af.

My specs are: Intel Q6600, gigabyte p35-ds3r rev 1.0, 4GB Ram, 550watt gigabyte odin psu

Ok so here are the 3 choices and the prices i can get em at here in africa (yes i know they are high ;) )

XFX Geforce Alpha Dog Edition 8800GT - Std Edition, 512MB DDR3 (Dual DVI, TV Out, SLI Ready) PCI Express $300

XFX GeForce Alpha Dog Edition 8800GTS 512MB DDR3 - STD EDITION - (DVI+TV+DVI) : PCI-EXPRESS 16X SLI Support $410

ASUS ATI Radeon 3870, 512MB DDR4, 256-Bit (Dual DVI, TV Out, D-Sub, HDMI) PCI Express 2.0 $315

I don't mind overclocking and just really want to know which of those 3 is best value for money and ofcourse should be better for games like crysis compared to my 8800gts 320mb.

Thank you to anyone that can offer advice :)

Also I see that there is a Inno3d 8800gts 512 here http://www.prophecy.co.za/inno3d-8 [...] 27408.html
that is slightly cheaper then the xfx 8800gts. But i know nothing about inno3d.

Get the 8800GT... cheapest and better performing than the 3870 in the majority of cases. The 8800GTS doesnt warrant the extra 25%... although it is a great card.

Ok thank m8. I'll go with that advice :)

Just out of interest if they don'y have the xfx 8800gt in stock is it worth paying an extra $30 to get the gainward or asus 8800gt? or go with the ati?

one last question lol ;) that inno 3d 8800gts why is it cheaper then all the other 8800gts brands? is it inferior?

Probably doesnt have as good a warranty.. but the rest of the components should be of the same quality.

Hey dev1se someone just told me that the 8800gt runs hot and fan is loud and can't be controlled. Is this true? I looked at the single slot card and realised that the hot air is not pushed outside the case. I was told to go for the 8800gts cos its got better cooling. What ya think. I hate noisy fans. Thx for the replies man you rule !!! ;)

Yeah go for the GTS if you want quieter... since the GT is hot running...

Advantages of the GTS are higher clock speeds, 16 more shader processors and better cooling...
