I have a 160G HD in my Acer Laptop computer which is running Vista Home Pemium. It is partitioned into C & D..and between the 2 partitions only 79G is accounted for..any idea what is going on with the other 90G?? I just reformatted thinking that would cue the problem, but it didnt.

Thanks for any help.

Maybe the D partition isn't active, you'll have to "mount" in that case:

-Go to your desktop and press Windows Key + R
-Type "diskmgmt.msc" and press Enter
-Look for D: and right click on its bar
-Select "Mark Partition as Active"

Hope this helps!

The "active" is the one that contains the initial boot files (only one partition can be marked as active per harddrive). If that is changed to D and D is not that partition, Windows will not start on next boot.

Ouch. Don't mark a different partition as Active! But you can use diskmgmt to look for unallocated space, and create another partition out of it. You could also use a program like Partition Magic to add that unallocated space to an existing partition.
