Wow, look at the price on this thing, i thought they were supposed to be a lot cheap than their quad counterparts.http://www.amazon.com/AMD-HD8750WCGHBOX-Phenom-Triple-Core-L2-512KBx3/dp/B0016KH7CW/ref=pd_rhf_p_t_1  and this is the equivilant quad

Hmm you are comparing Amazon to Newegg but that's $100 more!! geez

When Newegg gets them I'm sure they'll have them for at least less than the equivalent quads.

I can also show you sites selling the 9100e for more than the 9850.  Most of these aren't actually in stock, so I think they are just making up numbers (since they haven't officially been released).  Once they are released/at Newegg we should see more realistic prices (I hope, otherwise they won't sell many).

Actually I hope this means the 3-core AMD CPUs will kick ass, and perform great in gaming while giving a little boost in Quadcore territory applications.  I can dream can't I?  Can't I??

I'd always thought that computer parts sold by Amazon were Amazon partners. That $305 price looks like the price you'd find at a small computer store down the street. Once they're at Newegg, the price will be below $200. It could be that, in the Amazon system, a price field needs to be set and they just guessed.

If these go for that price, it will only be because they're trying to milk the upgrade market, people with 690 or 780 boards who can't use a 125 watt CPU but still want a B3 instead of a B2.

Technically, those benches are with B2 quads with one core turned off. The B3 quads are a bit faster than the B2's because the TLB errata is fixed. Once we see actual triple core B3's, there should be an improvement over those benches, though the fastest triple core is supposed to arrive at 2.5 gigahertz.

One of the 8750's might be worth it on a 780G board, since those boards don't have the voltage regulators to handle a 125 watt 9850. It might also make a decent upgrade for a 690G board, if there's a bios that supports B3's.

Always look at the supported CPU list to make sure. Even benchmarking sites like Anandtech have fried their 780G boards because they didn't check first and assumed a 9850 would work.

B2 -> B3 has no impact on performance when the TLB patch is disabled.

Btw, I believe the benches chookman saw where these: http://en.expreview.com/2008/03/31 [...] -who-wins/ and it does get beaten by Wolfdale, even Wolfdale-3M chips beat it, it only beats the older Allendale C2D.

690G work fine with 125 watt cpus. I had an x2 6400 BE on it and it ran flawlessly. only reason i changed to 790fx was for cfx.
