I have an Intel Pentium D CPU 2.66GHz processor that came with a cooling fan.
The fan is too loud for me, and the longer the PC is on, the louder it seemed to get.
I have two PCs with this type of processors.

Is there a way to "quiet" this fan up, or is there any fan I can buy to replace the loud ones?

u may be able to quiet the fan in the bios. look for something like "cpu smart fan target" which controls the fan speed based on temperature. if u don't have that you can put a 22 ohm 1/4 watt resistor in the fan power lead to knock down the voltage. i wouldn't recommend this on that power hungry processor though. however, ur best bet is to get a good, quiet cooler. i can recommend either the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro or coolermaster hyper Tx. i have both (i have the amd version of ac freezer). they are very quiet and offer excellent cooling performance especially for the price.

I use a zalman "fan mate II" rpm adjuster, but I had to dig out some plastic with a knife to get it to fit with the newer 4 pin leads on some heatsink fans. I was able to lower my cpu fan to under 1000 rpm, and these sell for about $7 at Fry's. I haven't found them online lately, but newegg may carry them.

New heatsink's the way to go.  If your case is large enough the Hyper TX2 should be perfect.  It's an efficient and quiet cooler for very cheap.

That fan has a built in thermal sensor and speed control, it's supposed to ramp up in response to ambient temps. I agree that a more efficient  cooler is probably the way to go but keep an eye on your temps.

I truely appreciate all your information and ideas.
From the buttom of my heart, I say thank you all for your great help"s".
Should be ordering one cooler to test before getting another one for the other machine.
Thank you all again.
