sometimes windows seems to think it is write caching a drive that it is not or at least shouldn't be.If you haven't written anything to this drive for awhile and it should be done caching (an hour should be enough if you were performing an intense transfer) then shut down remove the drive while shut down and re start. Now re connect the drive and wait for windows to detect it and auto play (dependent on your settings).Once drive is ready it may be advisable to disable write caching (optimize for quick removal).
Go to device manager, right click the drive in question click properties, select the policies tab and check optimize for quick removal, Restart. As long as you don't use the drive for paging file or intense gaming you should'nt notice much performance loss.
