Trying to hook up HDTV ready Panasonic TH-47PW5 (older plasma) to Scientific
Atlanta Explorer 8000HD. Picture is green.

TV has RGB, HD, and VD input. Explorer has only RGB output.

Do I need a different cable box? An adapter? Or out of luck? Of course
its night and I can't call the cable company.

Thanks in advance

Are you sure you have the right connections made?

I'm not sure about this as i don't have a commercial Panny, but i
seem to remember reading that you can go into the TV's user menu
and change the type of signal on the RGB input to COMPONENT. Surely
there is information in the plasma's owners manual.

You should go to the Plasma/LCD flat panel forum at www.avsforum.com
there is more Panasonic owners there than all other places on the
internet combined :-)

Thanks for the reply...

Connections are ok. Finally got a hold of cable company and they want me to
return the cable box for the 8300 series. Tech stated could be some kind of
compatibility problem... Will do that this morning...

Does anyone know what the HD & VD inputs are for?

Again - thanks == jeff

They are synchronization signals - - horizontal drive and vertical drive.
Some older or professional color monitors required 5 cables - - R, G, B, HD
and VD.
