Have a HP all-in-one connected to a Dell comp. Cannot print from NotePad or WordPad but can print from any file such as pictures. Screen shows shot of page to print okay.

This is just not enough to go on.

When you select to Print from Notepad, a box shows up that shows all available printers.
Is your HP showing there?
Does it show in fine print that it is "offline?"
Is the HP printer the default printer? (not that it matters in Notepad, it shows all printers anyway and you can select any of them).

Thanks for comeback and sorry for being so brief. This is not my computer so I'll have to get back with more details. Plan on going over there today. The problem occurred after someone took off some files that he thought were not needed. Ugh!

Not sure what information you want but here goes. The computer is a Dell Inspiron530S, the operating system is a Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition version2002 with SP 3. The printer will print a test page fine either locally or from the computer. Now to answer your questions Tigsounds. Yes, the HP printer shows among all available printers when you try to print from WordPad. No, it does not show that it is "offline" and, yes, it shows as the default printer.

Now, again, when something is written in WordPad and "print" is hit the preview comes up fine. But when you try to print from that screen the printer gets a signal and a sheet of paper is advanced but no printing.
