My mom has an eMachins PC, about 3-4 years old. She was having trouble with AOL and so she called them who's tech support put her through all kinds of run around and made things worse.
IN the end, AOL TS said that her modem (dial up) drivers were outdated, she says she tried to find the companies website but wasn't able to and so she got a dial-up modem from a friend, she installed it in her PC and
THE KEYBOARD & MOUSE quit working completely - (Not USB)

She then removed and reinstalled her original modem, but still the keyboard doesn't work, and the mouse quits after about a minute. The Keyboard & mouse was completely fine before.
Could it be that AOL TS had her do something that would have messed this up, or could modem have anything to do with it???

Is there a FIX????

If not, I was going to replace your MOBO, but was told that b/c its an emachines, i may have to replace the Ram, the CPU and possibly more>>......this doesn't sound right to me.

Obiously, with dial up, she doesn't need a screaming fast PC, just something for causal web browsing and basic media storage - (pictures), possible a word doc here and there.

Thoughts? Answers? Support?? ......please, she really doesn't have money, so I need to come up with a very inexpensive way to fix.

Thanks for the help

A mouse or keyboard doesn't necessarily have to be USB..a PS2 port is fine.

Try borrowing a friend's keyboard/mouse and see if it works first.

ALSO the issue now isn't that her modem doesn't work but that the MOUSe & KEYBOARD do not work? which happened after an attempt to change the modem

Try resetting the CMOS jumper and defaulting the BIOS.  Be sure to unplug the PSU, remove the battery and then reset the CMOS jumper.  Note, if you unplugged and replugged the PS2 mouse while the machine was on and in Windows, you may have messed up you OS installation.  I had to reload a kid's OS when he unplugged his PS/2 mouse, then plugged it back in while in windows.  That is what he said he did.
