Hello

I have upgraded my vaio (vgn-cr120e) ram. It comes with 2 gb (2*1). I replace 1gb stick with 2gb stick to have 3gb. System bios can detect 3gb and so is cpuz. but windows vista can only recognize as 2gb. I ran the memory test, and it shows no error. i have all the updates except sp1 which i am downloading now.

I notice one thing in cpuz that the ram sticks are in dual channel. I think that is causing the problem. So i try to disable it, but bios has no option to disable the mode.

I am now seeking your advice. what should i do?

Thanks.

No its not always true. But its common sense that its probably the main cause of your issues, lemme guess the 2 gigs it recognizes is the matched pair???

Splendid
bl - he doesn't have a matched pair, just one 1GB module and one 2GB module.
ht - are you sure that the "missing" RAM isn't perhaps being used by the graphics chip? Many notebooks use video chipsets that take some of the main memory instead of having their own dedicated memory.
